HOST LADY DEVILS FALL

Cosby (Va.) held off Greeneville
High in a hard-fought battle on Monday evening, 43-40.
The Lady Titans (4-0), led by a pair
of Division 1 signees, trailed early, jumped to a nine-point lead by the third quarter, then held
off a hard-charging rally by the Lady Devils (10-3) down the stretch.
The college-bound
seniors, Jazmin Pitts (Virginia) and Becca Wann (Richmond) teamed up for a key play in the closing
moments to help Cosby hang on. A beautiful assist by Wann to Pitts for a reverse lay-inwith 55 ticks
left gave Cosby a 40-35 advantage.
Two free throws by Adriaine Vaughan then helped offset a
late trey from Greeneville's Morgan Shipley.
The Lady Titans played a solid floor game
with just 13 turnovers on the evening.
Wann played a complete floor game for the winners
with 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists, five steals and committed just two turnovers. Pitts was
close to a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.
Shipley poured in a game-high 14
points with four 3-pointers for the Lady Devils. Samantha Fender contributed 10 points and ripped
downeight rebounds.
It was the first loss for GHS in the tourney's opening round in
four years.
