The lineup of teams for the 21st annual GreenBank Ladies'
Classic has been assembled, and once again the girls' basketball tournament held the week between
Christmas and New Year's promises to bring together some of the top teams in the nation.
This
year's tournament will begin on Monday, Dec. 28, and will end on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31.
Sixteen teams, including all five of the local high schools, will be participating, along with
area favorites Cocke County, Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett and Maryville.
Two-time defending
champion Wilson Central is in the field, and Oak Ridge High School, after an absence of several
years, will return for the 2009 tourney.
They will be joined by other state powers Mt.
Juliet, Cleveland High School and Livingston Academy. Sycamore High School from the mid-state
also returns for the second straight season.
Two out-of-state teams will be in Greeneville
and both come with impressive credentials.
Cosby High School from Midlothian, Va., a team
that advanced to the Virginia Final Four last year, is scheduled to play here and has two Division I
commitments on the roster.
Also making their first trip to Greeneville will be Rogers High
School from Rogers, Ark. They also advanced to their state's Final Four last year and return the
Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year and University of Oklahoma commitment Morgan
Hook.
Pairings for the first round of the tournament will be announced soon
