The Oak Ridge Lady
Wildcats won the Ladies' Classic for the sixth time, beating Jefferson County 49-36 in the finals
Saturday night at Hal Henard Gym.
The victory by Oak Ridge (15-2) was
their first Classic crown since 2002. They have also finished runnerup four times, including in
the previous two tourneys.
They got off to a torrid start
against the Lady Patriots, holding their opponents to a pair of free throws in the first quarter
while moving to an 11-2 lead. The shots started falling in the second but Oak Ridge was still up
23-14 at intermission.
The Patriots kept battling and
pulled to within 33-29 by the close of the third, but the potent Wildcats controlled the fourth
quarter and went on to pull away.
