Sullivan Central's Peyton Sams knocked down a 3-pointer with five seconds left as the
Cougars rallied from behind in the final quarter to beat Greeneville in a 58-56
thriller.
The Lady Greene Devils held a 49-35 lead after three
quarters, thanks to a 13-0 run that closed out the the stretch.
A
layup by Greeneville's Brylee Jones with a minute left had the Devils up 56-52, but Sams threaded
the needle with a long one at 41 seconds to close to 56-55. Greeneville (7-8) missed the front end
of a one-plus free throw opportunity with 23 seconds to go and Central's (10-7) Abbey Crawford rebounded, setting the stage for
Sams' winning bucket with mere seconds left to play.
Sams had a
double-double with 18 points and 10 assists, while Crawford had 18 points and yanked off eight
rebounds.
Greeneville got 22 points from Leah Fillers, nine points from
Grace Hayes and eight points and nine rebounds from Alana Collins.
