After a long trip from the state of Washington, Praire held on
for a 47-41 victory over Chuckey-Doak in the seventh game of the day.
The Lady Falcons (6-0)
seemed to take control of the game a number of times, but each time they did, Chuckey-Doak rallied
to make a contest out of it once again.
It was a one-possession game with a minute to play,
but over the final 60 seconds Praire did just enough to hang on for the close win.
It looked
like Chuckey-Doak (5-6) missed a golden opportunity by not jumping on Prairie early. The Lady
Knights hit the first two baskets of the game but then the Lady Falcons got their legs under them
and took an 8-7 lead by the end of the first.
The Lady Falcons came out strong in the
second, more than doubling their lead. Chuckey-Doak tightened up and closed out the quarter on a hot
note with 3-pointers by Brooke White and Christian Ward along with a solid effort under the basket
by Kendra Tarlton helping bring the Lady Knights back to within two at 22-20 by
halftime.
Prairie used a strong third to seemingly put the game away, only to see the Lady
Knights rally. Trailing 33-26 heading into the fourth quarter, White leveled the game at 35 with a
3-pointer at the 5:40 mark.
The Lady Falcons, behind Lindsey Levanen and Heather Corral,
never gave up the lead, battling strong on both ends of the floor.
Levanen led the way with
15 points and 14 rebounds. Corrall had an all-around night, with nine points, six boards, five
assists, six steals and six blocked shots (one shy of the tournament single-game
record).
White led the game with 17 points, knocking down three 3-pointers andgoing a perfect
6-of-6 from the foul line. Frye scored 13. Tarlton hadseven rebounds to lead the
team.
