Four-time tournament champion South Greene battled its way to a 64-56 first round victory over Farragut.

The Lady Rebels (10-1) led at the end of every quarter, but Farragut made them play the entire way to the horn.

After a tight opening eight minutes, the Lady Rebels blew the game apart in the second quarter.  Rechelle Dye, Ansley Ricker and Brandi Crum each hit a 3-pointer to lead South Greene to an 11-point scoring advantage in the period and to a 31-19 halftime lead.

But the Lady Admirals weren’t ready to call it a day. Farragut scored 10 points in the first two minutes of the second half to pull to within two. Ricker hit another 3-pointer for the Lady Rebels to stop the bleeding, and then 3-pointers from Ricker and Crum helped re-establish order.

Farragut wasn’t without long-ranger shooters of its own with Jessica Griswold and Stephanie Torrence knocking down shots from beyond the arc to make it a 45-39 game heading into the fourth quarter.

South Greene had to fend off a physical push by the Lady Admirals inthe fourth. Farragut closed to within two but then the Lady Rebs used a 54 percent free throw shooting effort to seal the victory.

Megan Casteel was perfect at the foul line, going 6-for-6 including a couple off a technical foul when Farragut got a little too physical.

South Greene’s best weapon in the final minutes was Rechelle Dye distributing the ball to Shelby Hicks on the blocks. Dye had nine assists.

Casteel finished the game with game-best 18 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.

Ricker scored 12. Hicks had 10 for the Lady Rebels.

Farragut (10-2) was led by 14 points from Torrence. Griswold scored 13.
