Maryville Knocks Off Greene Devils

Maryville's Lady Rebels pulled somewhat of a quarterfinal surprise,knocking off  Greeneville 52-47 on the Devils' home floor and advancing to tonight's semifinal round.

The Lady Rebels (7-4) got 22 points and seven rebounds from BailieRoberts, while Torie Vaught came off the bench to hit double figures with 10, grab seven rebounds and get four blocked shots.

That was enough to offset a nifty 26-point offensive show by Greeneville's Nicole Dickson, who also led the team on the boards with nine. No other Lady Devil hit double figures. Morgan Shipley scored nine.

Maryville led most of the game, including 24-17 at intermission and36-33 after three. The Rebels opened up a 10-point lead, 46-36, with5:11 left, but the Devils got back in it with a 10-2 run that closed the gap to 48-46 with 2:26 left. Shipley got five points during that spurt, but GHS  could get no closer. Rebekah Singleton and Roberts each made a pair of free throws in the final minute to keep the Lady Devils at bay.

Greeneville drops to 9-5 on the year.
