Cocke County won the opening game of day number two, riding a solid defense to a 75-53 win over Chuckey-Doak.

The Lady Red (12-3) forced the Lady Knights into 28 turnovers, 19 of them by steals. Cocke County scored 37 points off the Chuckey-Doak turnovers.

It was close through one quarter with Chuckey-Doak’s Brooke White hitting a 3-pointer near the buzzer to cut Cocke County’s early lead to three at 16-13. The Lady Red rolled to a 10-point scoring advantage inthe second and never were threatened again.

White led the Lady Knights (5-7) and the game in scoring with 13, hitting three from beyond the arc. Christian Ward also knocked down three from long range, scoring 12 for Chuckey-Doak.  Kaitlyn Frye had 11 rebounds for the Lady Knights.

Cocke County got 12 points and seven steals from Morgan Buda. Shannon Depew led the game in rebounding with 13 and blocked six shots.

The game was a marathon with more than 50 free throws being taken. Karly Frye led the game at the stripe, hitting four-of-four.
